Colorado State Bird – Lark Bunting

COLORADO STATE BIRD – LARK BUNTING

The state bird of Colorado is the Majestic Lark Bunting!

Although Colorado is home to numerous species of birds, the State of Colorado thought the Lark Bunting was the most symbolic representation of the Centennial State.

In their infinite wisdom, the Colorado General Assembly reviewed the Western Bluebird, Rufous Hummingbird, Peregrine Falcon, Mountain Blue Bird, Coopers Hawk, and an array of other birds but somehow still ended up with the Majestic Lark Bunting.

In fact, they even overlooked one of the rarest birds in North America the Gunnison Sage Grouse. This fascinating looking bird is almost exclusively found in Southwest Colorado and a small part of Utah. Today it is believed that only a few thousand of these birds still exist.
